JUST A STICK AND CLEATS!

Not the little toy stick, but a real lacrosse stick for beginners.  Most of the sports stores carry the beginner sticks which will work fine.  Some stores carry the head seperate from the shaft.  Both parts together make up the "stick" or the "crosse".  There is a brand called "Gait" which I think would work well for our young players.  Other brands will work good too.

OPTIONAL: SOME EXTRA STICK ADVICE

When you order a stick through on-line lacrosse stores like LAX.com, or if you go to Kicks-n-sticks in Millburn you can ask them to "custom string it" with hard mesh, or "dura-mesh".  Its a good idea because it gives the player a nice "pocket" to help them hold the ball much better.  You can also choose the colors! 

Why custom strung?  Store bought sticks are strung in a factory in CHINA!!   See the stick above how it says factory strung only?  This is how these companies save costs to make money.  So the sticks need lots of extra work and time to break them in.  Sometimes they are so poorly strung it is better to take out the material and redo it.    

Custom strung sticks are strung by real lacrosse players who design the pocket to be used immediately.  The young player with a custom stick will get the right feel for stick skills with the custom pocket and it will help him advance much faster.  It costs a little extra, but the long term difference is worth far more than the small initial cost.

Please don't feel you have to do this at all.  I just want you to know about the options that exist.
